Reining is one of the most exciting and fastest growing equestrian sports in the Western discipline today. Reining combines the best of speed and finesse in a fast paced but controlled competition and demonstrates just how much work goes into the development of a horse that can be competitive in such an event. The sport of Reining evolved from the ranch horse, one who is quick on their feet and is guided using a light rein. Cowhands would challenge each other to see whose horse could turn the quickest, slide the farthest and stop the hardest. Reining is a unique discipline, where the horse must be “dictated to completely” by the rider and show no resistance to mark well. There must be a high level of communication between the horse and rider and a partnership like none other.
